Vth Republic, the chronicles of a hectic birth
Documentary
52’, 2008 France
Directed by Sylvain Desmille
It is the thrilling, captivating, an yet oft-misunderstood story of the birth of the Fifth French Repulic that this 52-minute documentary brings to life on screen thanks to a dynamic analysis of the events that led to its advent, from the crisis of May 13th to the promulgation of the new consitution on October 5th, 1958, and its reform in 1962.
The film is also a way of better understanding the underpinnings of the Fifth Republic, to see, by way of the protagonists and the latest historical research, how a bonapart-esque coup d’etat would give birth to a democratic regime that has stood to this day to become one of the longest lived in the history of the French Republic.
